David K week 3

Welcome to week 3 of my blog. This week was filled with great experiential learning experiences and learning opportunities. The first highlight of the week was visiting Big Spaceship in Brooklyn, New York. They are an independent advertising firm that works with major companies and helps them promote and market to consumers. We met with and Elmira College alumni which was very cool to know that they truly are everywhere. Big Spaceship was very cool and different from most advertising firms in the city, but it was very helpful to see how a smaller company uses marketing and other business strategies! After that we headed to Manhattan!

In Manhattan we went to Rockefellar Plaza, which is where the headquarters of NBC stands. This was a very cool experience by being inside one of the biggest media and communications company. We got to see working studios where they hold live television shows like Seth Meyers. They took us behind the scenes as well to see the control rooms which was very cool to be able to see. The coolest part was that people were working during our tour. After NBC studios we were able to walk around the city for some time, it was very busy and crowded!

The next highlight of the week was traveling to Rochester, New York where we went to Tipping Point Communications another advertising and marketing firm. It was not as laid back as Big Spaceship but they were very welcoming! It was interesting to see how a company of that size work. We met with one of the owning partners of the business and she gave  very good advice. We also spoke with Todd who is the head of social media marketing for tipping point and he was very cool. Social media is growing and businesses need to utilize it for them to keep up because more and more people are connected with it!

After our visit to Rochester we continued up to Buffalo, New York (it was cold) and went arrived at Key Bank Arena home of the Buffalo Sabres, and the Buffalo Bandits. They also hold major events and concerts! This was one of the coolest experiences being able to get an inside look on sports marketing. They mentioned how the Sabres had a tough year, so they needed to execute different and strategic ways to market the team! This was the highlight of my week! It got me a lot more interested in sports marketing! Before we headed home we make a quick stop to Canandaigua athe the newly transformed New York Kitchen. They had free sandwhiches and they very so good, I ate three of them!

Endieveri, F, Week 3

This week the class traveled to many different places around New York State. On Tuesday we went to New York City, and on Thursday we went to Rochester and Buffalo.

Our trip to the city began with a meeting with members of the team at Big Spaceship, an ad agency out of Brooklyn. We then traveled to Manhattan where we took a tour of the NBC building as well as enjoyed free time in the city. I took many pictures which are below

Our trip to Rochester and Buffalo was a great learning experience even though it was a long trip. We spoke with two members of the Tipping Point Communications team, learning about what they do in the fields of market research and public relations. The class then went to buffalo where we ate at the 716 restaurant and took a tour of Key Bank Arena. Key Bank Arena is home to the Buffalo Sabers, this is where we talked with members of their marketing team, learning about sports marketing.  Like NYC I took some pictures.

Melvin, K , Week 3

Hi bloggers! Welcome back to my post! This past week was jam packed with many adventures. To start off the week we kept it simple and stayed in the class to listen to a couple different facilitators speak about their assigned pages of three books that our professor assigned us. Tuesday is when the travels began. We ventured off to New York City to visit The Big Spaceship and NBC. The first stop of the day was the Big Spaceship in Brooklyn, NY. There we met up with an alumni for Elmira College to discuss the different roles of the company. This company is very laid back. There are even dogs that run around the office!

Our next pit stop was at NBC where we were given a tour of the entire building. We were able to see behind the scenes of different sets. I thought this was very cool being able to see the sets of the shows that I actually enjoy watching. The conclude the tour of NBC the group was able to play different roles of a talk show!

The next long trip was on Thursday when we got up bright and early to make our way to Rochester and Buffalo to learn about the business of Tipping Point Communications and the Buffalo Sabers marketing strategies. At Tipping Point we met with two different people that work there. We learned about the values of the company and how it is operated. This company is a more formal company compared to the Big Spaceship that we had visited a few days earlier.

After Tipping Point we made our way to the Buffalo Saber's rink, KeyBank Center. Here we met up with some of the key marketing people. We got a tour of the entire arena even behind the scenes. They talked about some of the different sponsorships. One of my favorites was the Lexus Club. I thought this was a good looking room and went along well with the Lexus company theme. We were able to see the rink without ice. Unfortunately the Saber's locker room was under construction so we were unable to go inside. We also learned about some of the marketing strategies of the team.

Friday we ended the week a little closer to campus when we stopped off in Walkin's Glen International. There we met with two employees who discussed how the company is a major contender for the local economy and helps out other places with business. They told us the major planning it takes to host NASCAR and the day after the years NASCAR event its over they start planning for the next years. The two told us about how advertisements are major for the races.
Me being very focused on what the people were talking about.
