Rosen, A, Week 4

Hello everyone and welcome to my fourth blog post for MKT 3915, Entertainment, Media, and Sports Marketing: An Experiential Learning Experience!

With week four now over, we've entered the final stretch in the 2017-2018 school year! There's only one more week until school's (finally) over and I couldn't be more excited. We took our final three field trips for the term in week four but first, I presented my book club readings on Monday.

I've really enjoyed all of my classmate's presentations and tried to incorporate techniques they used in my own presentation! I covered all three of our textbooks and even had three informative videos for the class to watch. I began my presentation talking about myself, something I'm not very comfortable doing, but it went well and it was smooth sailing from there on. I really enjoyed hearing what my classmates thought about the controversial topic of NCAA athletes being paid. It was one of my discussion questions and we heard a lot of really good points on both sides of the spectrum.

Our first trip of the week came on Tuesday, when we visited Community Broadcasters and spoke with Bruce S. Although Community Broadcasters is in the radio business, Bruce told us that what they do is a lot more than just radio. The company also does work in the online and social media space for cause and sports advertisements. After listening to Bruce's presentation, we got a tour of the facility, which was smaller than I would've imagined for a radio company.

On Wednesday we walked over to channel 18 WETM news located in Elmira. We were hosted by Lisa S, who gave us an expansive tour and really shared her knowledge with us all. Lisa has been in the TV business for decades and had valuable information for us in many different facets of the company. My favorite part was when we got up to the writer's room since I'm currently employed as a writer and this directly correlated with one of my passions. The desk space was pretty small and it didn't seem all that glamorous, confirming my thoughts on not pursuing a journalism job full time after school. We were taken to the studio and got to test out the green screen used by the meteorologist for weather reporting! Lisa told us that meteorologists need to graduate with a degree in meteorology in order to be referred to as a meteorologist.

We took our final trip of the term Thursday to Tioga Downs Casino! Although it's admittedly not a great hobby to have, I've always been fascinated with gambling and enjoy visiting the Casino every once in a while. I've been to Tioga Downs in the past, as my dad likes to stop by on our way up to school and back, so I kind of knew what to expect. I thought it was one of our best appointments, if not the best, of the term. I really learned a lot in our two hours at Tioga and was impressed with the preparedness of the staff that presented to us. Our entire class was really focused the entire time and asked a couple of really good questions. My favorite part of the trip was definitely seeing the suite in the hotel, which you don't get to see every day!

Four weeks have gone by so fast, it's almost hard to believe! With only one week remaining in the course, we'll be tasked with preparing a case to present on Friday before we leave for summer break! I can't wait to get to work and wrap up this course, as I have a fun summer planned ahead that I'm eagerly awaiting!

Pierce, K, Week 4

Hey bloggers! Almost done with the term, it is crazy how fast the year went by. Another exciting week for our class. The week was filled with much adventure and learning experiences.

Beginning with our experiential learning experiences, the week started off by going to Community Broadcasters, right in Elmira. During the presentation I learned there is a whole media outlet that I have never known before right in Elmira. Community Broadcasters is more than just radio, they produce short and long term multimedia marketing strategies through broadcast radio, and print and digital entertainment. The company also produces and markets 30 minuet local broadcast radio business infomercials along with full market analysis, this is important for Community Broadcasters to take advantage of due to “93% of U.S. adults 18 and older listen to radio every week—more than those watching television or using a smartphone, TV connected device, tablet or PC” (How America Listens, 2018).

Next, on Wednesday we again stayed local and continued with the theme of entertainment media and visited WETM TV. Ms. Lisa began our tour by taking us into the sales area. Here she discussed the foundation and main goal of the company to make a profit. They accomplish that by selling commercials. These commercials range from large, nation-wide businesses all the way down to local. In order to understand the demographics of the surrounding area, WETM uses a program called Nielsen, “a global measurement and data analytics company that provides the most complete and trusted view available of consumers and markets worldwide” (Nielsen, 2018). It is important to understand the surrounding data “Audience measurement is critical to the advertiser since they want to know the size and characteristics of the audience they are reaching when they buy time on a particular program. Audience size and composition are important to the network or station as these figures determine the amount they can charge for commercial viewing time. Programming decisions are made on the basis of audience size and composition” (Belch & Belch, 2017).

The last but not least trip we made this week and the end of the term was to Tioga Downs Casino Resort! To understand the casino, I learned that is was originally a horse track race until 2005, when Mr. Jeff Gural bought it and on June 9th of 2006 Tioga Downs Casino opened offering harness racing, simulcast betting, and over 800 video lottery terminals. Then in 2016 Tioga become a full blown casino and then the following year, a hotel was added creating the Tioga Downs Resort, “The U.S. casino market has grown from $66 billion in revenue before the recession to more than $71 billion last year, according to data from the compiled by the Center for Gaming Research at the University of Nevada Las Vegas” (Cooper, 2016). The casino industry is growing, and is a key section in the entertainment marketing industry.

To end the week we had four people present on the readings that further talked about marketing in the entertainment industry. This week was full of fun and great learning experiences and I am glad that I was able to experience all of them!!

Until next week!

Olsen, M, Week 4

Welcome back for Week 4!

This week we had students present on their readings and 3 field trips!

To start off our week, we had 3 students present on their readings from the three books. What I found to be most interesting from this weeks reading is from The Definitive Guide to Entertainment Marketing by Lieberman and Esgate pages 178-192. What was most interesting from this section is how gaming is so popular in today's day and age across all ages and genders. It is stated that “eighty percent of the ten top-grossing iPhone apps in America-and 85% of the top 20- are now free” and that this is because of those individuals making in game purchases which is where they make their money (Lieberman & Esgate, 2014, p. 181). I have a few friends that have spent a significant amount of money on games such as Candy Crush, Pokemon Go, and Kim Kardashian: Hollywood all free to play, but when they get stuck or want something they spend the $.99 or more to get it!

On Tuesday we went on a field trip to Community Broadcasters, a radio broadcasting company. There we spoke with Mr. Bruce S. who is a local sales manager, CRMP. He gave us a presentation on how they sell commercial spots on the radio, how they market their radio station at events, and how they have converted with the changing technologies; streaming services. We also were given a tour of the building where we were able to see the rooms where the radio hosts control their stations.
On Wednesday we went on a field trip to WETM, a NBC-affiliated television station in the Elmira area. There we spoke with Lisa S, who is the Integrated Digital Specialist. She gave us a tour of the facilities and told us about the marketing they do. We were told that some companies buy commercial slots at specific times or during specific events while others will buy slots that can be aired any time and date! During the tour of the facilities we were able to see where they film the news, do the weather and sports broadcasts, and do interviews with guests.

On Thursday we went on our final field trip to Tioga Downs Casino and Resort. There we met with Mr. Jim W. and Ms. Christina L. They spoke to us about the casino, the new hotel, the events they host, and the promoting that goes along with it. Tioga Downs has 942 slot machines, 32 table games, 12 poker tables, 160 hotel rooms, an arcade, a health and fitness center, a full spa, 3 pools, a waterslide, and 8 dining outlets. I think that the events and promotions they are hosting are all great ideas in order to expand their name. They host Winterfest to get families in the doors, they host Senior Day every Wednesday, they hosted a Water Pong contest and have concerts that targeted at all ages and families.

To wrap up our week, we had the final three students present on their readings. What I found to be most interesting from this set of readings was from Sharara’s Why We Play, pages 47-53. What I found to be most interesting from this section is that Tom Brady, arguably the best player in the NFL was the 199th pick of the 6th round in the NFL Draft. A quote that I really enjoyed from this section is "Tom Brady is not an athlete by success – he worked extremely hard to get where he is today,” (Sharara, 2017, p. 50-51). I feel a sense of connection to this quote because I was arguably the worst flyer on the cheerleading team my freshman year. I had a lot of experience tumbling due to being a gymnast, but very little experience being a flyer, let alone a college level flyer. I worked extremely all of my freshman year and by the end was recognized as “Most Improved” and “Rookie of the Year” which was a huge accomplishment in my eyes. Now fast forward to 2018 and I was recognized as a 2x “Most Outstanding Flyer” award (2017 and 2018) and “Cheerleader of the Year” for the 2018 season. Everyone can do what they set their mind to, they just have to have the drive to do so and I am proud of myself for having the drive to accomplish what I want and set out to do!

I can't believe that this course is coming to a close! This course has truly been so amazing and I am so grateful for the opportunities that I have had!

Melvin, K, Week 4

Welcome to week 4 of my blog! This week we kept it local and explored the businesses closer to Elmira. We started and wrapped the week up in the classroom listening the last of the facilitators. Tuesday is when the class started the adventures.
Monday and Friday were both days of listening to classmates speaking about their assigned sections readings. A couple of the facilitators touched base on different platforms of gaming industry, the music industry, radio, the television industry, the power of advertising, and different athletic brands.

On Tuesday the class headed to Community Broadcasters, LLC which is a local station that owns five different radio channels. Here we heard about the marketing strategies that are important to running the station. The speaker spoke about how the station has to reach out to different businesses in order to sell advertising slots. Some examples of different sports marketing that Community Broadcasters is in charge of is the Buffalo Bills, the Buffalo Sabres, and Penn State Football. A quote that stuck with me was, "quality isn't always cheap and cheap isn't always quality." That quote was said to explain that when businesses are buying advertising spots they are very expensive, but for good reason. The more money spent on the ad, the more likely the ad will be effective. After a brief lecture, we went on the tour of the facility.

On Wednesday the class went to a similar place, but this time was television. WEMT-18 was the destination. Here we were given a behind the scenes tour of the building. We also learned about advertising and how they need to make sure that all commercials are shown or they will not get paid for it. WEMT was run fairly similar to Community Broadcasters in the way of selling ads.

Thursday was the most interesting trip of the week for me. We stopped off at Tioga Downs Casino. We met with the marketing manger and another employee on the marketing team. They spoke briefly on the history of the casino. The casino used to be a quarter horse racetrack called "Tioga Park". Then it was purchased by Jeff Gural who made it into what it is today. The marketers then spoke about some of the different strategies used. One of my favorite quotes was that the casino is marketed as "the gate way to the finger lakes". This grabs the attention of travelers making their way to different stops of the finger lakes. We then finished the trip off with a tour.

Thats a wrap of the week! Tune in for the last week of activities.

Endieveri, F, Week 4

This will be my last blog post about my experiential learning marketing class. This was the last week that my class traveled. This week we went to three different locations in the Elmira area, Community Broadcasters, WETM-TV, and Tioga Downs Casino.

The first two locations, Community Broadcasters and WETM-TV, had very similar sales strategies though WETM has more resources to offer clients. We learned about these similarities and the differences on Tuesday and Wednesday. We also were able to tour the facilities, getting to see how radio and television is produced.

On Thursday we traveled to Nichols, NY where Tioga Downs Casino/Resort is located. This journey was very interesting as many of us had never been to a casino. On this trip we were able to talk with two members of the marketing team and two members of the HR team. We also took a tour of the facilities.

This class comes to an end next week and it was one of the greatest classes i have ever taken. It is a unique travel course as we did a lot of domestic travel. Every trip in this course offered amazing experiences and I was happy to be apart of it.

Thanks for reading!

Jerolman, M, Week 4

Hello Bloggers welcome to the final weeks of my Entertainment Media and Sports Marketing class!
What another amazing week we had in the classroom and hands on with experiential learning. Monday was a class day for us this week while we had 3 people present their facilitators report. My classmate Caroline went first and discussed the same three books we have all been reading for this term. She talked about the Definitive Guide to Entertainment Marketing and what she learned from her sections. She discussed the gaming industry and how it has evolved into three different platforms; social, video, and mobile. Mobile marketing and mobile advertising are two areas that she read, are continuing to grow. Another thing Caroline talked about was in Why We Play, the power of advertising at the Olympics; Coca Cola, Protector & Gamble, Nike. She discussed how sports have been used since the Olympics started out to promote peace and international corporation. We also heard from 2 other classmates they discussed the topics of Sports crossing the line from athletic competition to entertainment long ago and Under Armor has been so successful is because people they don’t “pick a team.”

On Tuesday we went to the Community Broadcasting station right down the street and got to see what it’s like from a radio station marketing perspective. They talked about how they have sales people that go out every day to companies like restaurants or car washes, to sell they time on the radio to market their company. Community Broadcasters is very well known around the upstate New York area, even up into Buffalo, having 5 different stations. They talked to us about client’s success is YOUR success. Some quotes they shared with us were, “Follow through and Follow Up, Stay Visible when you’re not “visible”, Continue asking questions, Bring value with every interaction.” Those quotes seemed to be very important and the way they run their business. They have 5 different stations consisting of different music and bringing different audiences. For example, WINK 106 is aimed towards adults 18-49 with the top 40 hits music and the hottest promotions. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing that radio side of promoting and marketing.

My favorite country station around here.

On Wednesday we got to see the WETM news station down the street as well, getting a tour and seeing how they market themselves. They are similar to the radio station, where they have sales people go out and sell time on the TV (around 60 seconds-2 minutes) for people to market and promote their businesses. They mentioned that sometimes they get people that come right to the station sometimes and buy the air time right from them, but mostly sell through their sales people. Their most popular way of selling is in packages. They sell the packages because that is what makes them more money. They talked about how they have a big news station in Syracuse, where all the TV is ran through just subbing off into each station. They station is owned by a company called NextStar, which is in charge of everything that goes on. They even sent a specific sales person from NextStar to work in Elmira and keep an eye on everything. The main goal at WETM is to obviously to air the everyday news, but also help set up target markets for businesses to get out into the public and spread the word of what they are selling! I enjoyed the TV station and seeing what they have to offer to the marketing and promoting world.

Thursday was my favorite trip this week! We got to go to Tioga Downs Casino Racing and Entertainment Resort. They truly did an amazing job presenting to the class how they run their business and how they market for the community. They have their own marketing team which creates and run promotions throughout the whole casino. The marketing team tries to come up with ideas to get people to the Casino. They usually create a prize structure and write rules and submitting gaming commission. Some promotions they run is every Wednesday is senior day where seniors get to play free play and casino points. They talked about how important social media is for them, mostly Facebook, where they come up with a promotion for that day or weekend and puts on Facebook where most of their customers come from. The casino does a great job also promoting on signs around the property so while people are playing they see what is coming up next in their building! I really enjoyed learned about marketing in the entertainment industry!

Cuffee, H, Week 3

Hello, welcome to Week 3! We had a very busy week this week, hands down the busiest we have been all term. We had 4 field trips this week and they were all very wonderful and they were great learning experiences.

Tipping Point Communications, Rochester, New York
On Tuesday, we went to an ad agency, Big Spaceship, in Brooklyn (Dumbo) where we saw how an ad agency can work with a company to get information to try to advertise to consumers. Their most important work was when they made videos to persuade millennials to vote. After, we went to NBC Studios and saw how the company set up lighting and how they aired their popular shows for the viewers to make sure they stay engaged. This visit might have been my favorite of the whole week. It was also cool to do our own little NBC Late Night show.

On Thursday, we went to Tipping Point Communications and visited another ad agency to see how they use social media to get their names out there to their clients. Their main client was Wegmans, as Wegmans is a very big franchise in Rochester. Once we left TPC, we went to visit the Buffalo Sabres, where we saw the biggest TV in all of North America! We also got the chance to go into the visiting locker room, as well as see some more of the behind the scenes stuff that goes on at the facility. After we left the Sabres, we visited the Canandaigua Wine Festival where we heard great live music as well as ate great samplers from a catered food truck outside the event.

Our last trip of the week, was to Watkins Glen International. We met with the marketing executive to see how their racetrack was marketed to the people. I loved how they allow people to stay overnight in rooms, and be able to camp, and also how they have many different events like car shows and wine festivals to attract different types of people to see their beautiful racetrack.

Overall, I loved this week. I wish we could do it over again and experience the wonderful places we went to.

Until next week!

Mattice, J, Week 3

Welcome back for another blog, this one for Week 3 of Entertainment, Media, and Sports Marketing. It was our busiest week of the term and it was for sure the best one. We are now over the halfway point of the term. We started off the week with 3 class facilitators, and then we went on 3 other class trips.  The 3 facilitators were Kyra, Marissa, and Kianna. They all did a really nice job of presenting and helped us understand the readings for the books.

Our week then took off from there as we went to New York City. We met with an Elmira Alum that is now working at Big Spaceship. We were given a tour and a presentation on how things are run at Big Spaceship.
Photo taken by Professor Wolfe
We then went to NBC studios and were able to get a behind the scene tour. We were able to see how everything was run and it gives you a different perspective then what is seen on TV. We also were able to make our own mock TV show.

Thursday we went on another exciting trip. This time we started off the day with a trip to Rochester. We met with Barbara P. and Todd C. at Tipping Point communications. We did a small Q&A at the beginning to figure out what it is we wanted to get out of the meeting. She then answered any questions we had and it was a productive meeting.
Photo taken by Professor Wolfe
After that we went to the Keybank Center in Buffalo and were given another behind the scenes tour of the arena. We also had a sit down presentation and were able to find out what they did from a marketing standpoint. We got to see the away teams locker room and got to sit in the executive suits.
Photo taken by Professor Wolfe
We then had a quick pit stop on the way home and stopped at the New York Kitchen and were able to try out some of food on their opening day. It was overall a very exciting week and I am excited for the last remaining weeks of class!

Pierce, K, Week 3

Hey bloggers! Week three was a fun filled and busy week of many experiential learning experiences.

The first trip we made was to New York City, we first stopped in Brooklyn where we toured a marketing agency called Big Spaceship, here we met with Olga who was an Elmira College alumni. She gave us a run down on all the important messages and mission statement that they act on to give their customers the best possible results!
We next took a trip to NBC Studios, where we were able to get first hand experience on how my favorite shows and news stations were produced. Here I not only gained an understanding of how production of a show is played out but also how much goes into creating and marketing a show. Unfortunately we were unable to take any pictures on the tour, but the experience itself was enough of a memory to last.

After all of that we were able to go exploring in the city on our own. Just by walking through the busy streets, I was able to see the importance of marketing. Due to all of the people and how crowded it is, marketing is key for standing out and creating success. One major area that we explored was Time Square, here is where I saw all the big advertisements that demonstrated the companies and businesses that wanted to promote and expose their product or service. All the giant bill boards and tv screens that showed the ads really grabbed my attention and made me realize all of the money and effort put into being a successful business. Along with our exploring we also saw the Rockefeller Center and Madison Square Garden, the city is a busy and bustling place that from a marketing standpoint that brings in a lot of revenue, although NYC is an interesting and cool place, the city is not a place for me.

The next trip we took was to Rochester where we meet the production team of the marketing agency of Tipping Point Communications. Here we learned what went into the marketing of specific brands and products. We then went to my home town of Buffalo, NY where we explored the Key Bank Center. Here we got a backstage look of the arena that helped me gain a better understanding of all of the work that requires to produce a great event. We then concluded the tour with a wine tasting and that was a very interesting experience by allowing the company to show off their products and location.

Unfortunately I could not make the Watkins Glenn International trip, but upon research the track is a great experience that should be visited.

Until next week!

McDonald, K, Week 3

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! This week has been one to remember! It was full of experiential learning trips to some very exciting places like New York City, Buffalo, and others. Through these trips we were able to see what we have learned in class in different industries and organizations around the state of New York. Learning in the classroom in one thing, but being able to see it in action and learn from these businesses is a real treat.

Our first trip of the week was down to New York City for a full day of learning. We stopped in Brooklyn first at an ad agency called Big Spaceship. It was clear that they are a very creative agency just from their name! Here we were able to see what kinds of disciples agencies cover and how they work within their company. Big Spaceship has an open floor plan where they work together in teams so they can bounce ideas off each other. Some of their clients are Google and Samsung, and they work on market intelligence, social media, and design. I really enjoyed learning from this agency and seeing their style of work. After we left, we stopped by NBC Studios to get a tour. It was incredibly interesting to see behind the scenes of one of the biggest TV channels in the nation. The media industry is one of our focuses in this class, and during this stop we were able to learn about it in a very unique way.

Our second experiential learning trip was up to Rochester and Buffalo. In Rochester we stopped at another ad agency, this one called Tipping Point Communications. We heard from the president, Barbara P., as well as from Todd C. who works with social media. Both of the presenters shared their knowledge and expertise and made sure to talk to us about what we wanted to learn about which was very nice of them. After the meeting with them, we drove over to the KeyBank Center in Buffalo. This part of the trip really interested me as the KeyBank Center is home to the Buffalo Sabers NHL team. We learned about how the center markets not only the hockey team, but also other events like UFC fights and concerts. Although we weren't able to see the locker room, it was still a memorable tour and learning experience.

Our final trip of the week was up to Watkins Glen International where we continued the sports marketing learning. Here we learned about how they attract consumers and market a unique sport like NASCAR. Hearing about their revenue streams and marketing techniques was interesting because it differs slightly from other sports. For one, they bring in the most revenue from renting out the track, not selling tickets. Other than learning about racing marketing, seeing the facilities up at Watkins Glen was very fascinating because I had never been there before.

Photo Taken by Alison Wolfe
Overall, this third week of classes was one for the books! It was full of fun and informing experiences, all of which I will remember for a very long time. I am excited to learn more about the local marketing efforts this upcoming week as we visit Community Broadcasters, WETM-TV, and Tioga Downs Casino. Be sure to check back next week to get the full scoop on those fun adventures. Ciao for now!

Smith, B, Week 3

Hello and welcome to my third blog! Week three we had many great experiences and got the chance to take in a lot of valuable information. Monday we a few facilitators who did a great job of covering their sections of the books. Tuesday we had a very long and fun day in the city. We got to go see the ad agency Big Spaceship, meet some of their workers and get some insight on what they do.
Image taken by Professor Wolfe
After that we went to NBC studios in Rockefeller Center and got an awesome tour of their workplace. We saw some of the sets that some very popular people work in such as Jimmy Fallon which was very surreal to me.

Thursday was another day full of fun and once in a lifetime experiences as we got to go to Tipping Point Communications and get a presentation from two members of the agency. Barbara P. and Todd C. Both gave us awesome presentations and a lot of good information to hold onto and remember for future references. After that we went to the Buffalo Sabres arena where we got a tour of pretty much the whole entire place which was pretty cool, we even got to learn about the zambonis. The two people that toured us and talked to us about marketing were very experienced and well-known people. One of which got to meet many celebrities and the other has a lot of NHL in their background. So that was another very fun and informational trip. On the way home we even got to stop at a restaurant that had just changed its name and was having a big opening.

Friday, probably my favorite trip so far, we went to Watkins Glenn International. A very famous and well-known race track, pretty much known worldwide. There we got to learn about the marketing of the track and what they do to keep that going. Many people think only NASCAR happens at tracks but they do much more than that to keep themselves busy and productive. I thought this was cool because I come from a long line of I guess you could say adrenaline sport athletes, I raced motocross and snocross, so all of the racing stuff really applies to me and i have always been very interested in it.

So overall I would say this week of class was fantastic and packed with a ton of awesome trips and very informational experiences. Can't wait for what's to come in week four!

Gillam, C, Week 3

Welcome back to week 3 everyone!

Picture Credit: Myself and Professor Wolfe
This week has been filled with lots of experiential learning. We went on three field and had multiple people present.

To start our week off we went to New York City on Tuesday! We had the opportunity to visit the Big Spaceship, which is a marketing group Brooklyn, then we ventured back into the city and toured the NBC studio.

The picture to the right is our class at the Big Spaceship. One thing that I found interesting about the Big Spaceship is that they basically combine art and science to create relevant data for their clients. My favorite aspect of the Big Spaceship is that workers are allowed to bring dogs into work. This helps to create a happy and healthy work environment.

These are some pictures from our tour at the NBC studio. Before starting the tour, we watched a little clip about the history of the NBC studio. This building was one the first places that live television was produced in. I did not realize how much history is actually behind the NBC building itself. Throughout our tour, they brought us to various famous studios. For example, we had the chance to go into the studio where Late Night with Seth Meyers is recorded. After having the chance to tour the various studios, we then headed into a recording studio and created our own recording. To me, this was the highlight of the tour.
Picture Credit: Myself and Professor Wolfe

On Thursday, we had the amazing opportunity to visit the Pegula- KeyBank Center. This is where the Buffalo Sabres play. We had the chance to meet with two people that worked at the center. One was in charge of marketing the Buffalo Sabres and the other was the live events marketing coordinator. To start off, they gave us a tour of the center. Throughout the tour we got to visit various areas in the building. For example, we went to the VIP seating area, opposing team's locker room, the sound room, the kitchen, and the Lexus club room. This was such a cool experience. After our tour, we headed down to a room and both the marketers gave us presentation on what exactly they do.
Picture Credit: Myself and Professor Wolfe

To end our week, we visited Watkins Glen International. This was a very cool experience as I have never been to a race car track before. First, we met with a marketer and he talked to us about how he markets Watkins Glen International. He talked about the various events that take place at WGI and how he markets each of those and then he went into talking about the NASCAR industry and how to market that. After having the chance to talk to him, we then headed out to the race track. We were lucky enough to watch cars go around the track when we were out there.

While this week was filled with field trips, I am so glad we had the opportunity to visit all these places! Having the chance to speak with various marketers and marketing teams was truly a great experience. Can't wait to see what next week will bring!

Serrano, J, Week 3

Hello its me again, welcome back to my blog. This week our class had gone an many experiential learning experience  Tuesday was my favorite experiential learning experience of the week we had left at 4am to go to New York City. We had taken the trip to Brooklyn heading to an advertising agency called Big Spaceship. I learned how they operate there ship, this particular agency had an amazing calm atmosphere in the work place yet they are still dedicated and hard working in this fun environment. They have provided an amazing work environment and produce great work for their clients. This work environment is unique and every worker is part of the Big Spaceship team.

After our trip to Big Spaceship we went to Manhattan to see NBC studios where we had gotten a behind the scenes look of the whole studio. We saw how it was run from recording to the live television production as we were able to see all the different parts that play in this process. Also we got to see the news room where the journalist sit right behind the set just incase there is breaking news. After our tour we had some free time to roam around, I had gone to Time Square one of my favorite spots. This spot is captivating with all the advertisements and billboard signs.

Then Thursday was another one of the most experiential trips we have taken again had waken up early to go to an ad agency in Rochester that dealt with primarily on focus groups and qualitative market research. They work with many different organizations to figure out whats the best marketing plan for the company and what works with certain people as well as what draws peoples attention. They also allow other companies to use their facilities for focus groups. After that we went to Buffalo New York where we went to the home of the Buffalo Sabers as we went throughout there stadium seeing what it takes in producing/broadcasting a game. This was an amazing trip and a great learning experience. All of these experiential learning experience has directly related to class helping us learn as well as have a fun time in these industry
