Melvin, K , Week 3

Hi bloggers! Welcome back to my post! This past week was jam packed with many adventures. To start off the week we kept it simple and stayed in the class to listen to a couple different facilitators speak about their assigned pages of three books that our professor assigned us. Tuesday is when the travels began. We ventured off to New York City to visit The Big Spaceship and NBC. The first stop of the day was the Big Spaceship in Brooklyn, NY. There we met up with an alumni for Elmira College to discuss the different roles of the company. This company is very laid back. There are even dogs that run around the office!

Our next pit stop was at NBC where we were given a tour of the entire building. We were able to see behind the scenes of different sets. I thought this was very cool being able to see the sets of the shows that I actually enjoy watching. The conclude the tour of NBC the group was able to play different roles of a talk show!

The next long trip was on Thursday when we got up bright and early to make our way to Rochester and Buffalo to learn about the business of Tipping Point Communications and the Buffalo Sabers marketing strategies. At Tipping Point we met with two different people that work there. We learned about the values of the company and how it is operated. This company is a more formal company compared to the Big Spaceship that we had visited a few days earlier.

After Tipping Point we made our way to the Buffalo Saber's rink, KeyBank Center. Here we met up with some of the key marketing people. We got a tour of the entire arena even behind the scenes. They talked about some of the different sponsorships. One of my favorites was the Lexus Club. I thought this was a good looking room and went along well with the Lexus company theme. We were able to see the rink without ice. Unfortunately the Saber's locker room was under construction so we were unable to go inside. We also learned about some of the marketing strategies of the team.

Friday we ended the week a little closer to campus when we stopped off in Walkin's Glen International. There we met with two employees who discussed how the company is a major contender for the local economy and helps out other places with business. They told us the major planning it takes to host NASCAR and the day after the years NASCAR event its over they start planning for the next years. The two told us about how advertisements are major for the races.
Me being very focused on what the people were talking about.
